Mom gives birth in St. Mary's hospital parking lot

Posted: Updated:

A pregnant woman from Beaverdam experienced an extremely eventful delivery Monday morning.

Lorcan Mead couldn't wait to meet the world, so he pushed his way out as his mother and father, Terri and Adam Mead, were rushing through the St. Mary's Hospital parking lot.

Terri realized quickly this was going to be a truly special delivery.

"(Adam) just kept telling me to breathe through the contractions. I felt like they were coming back-to-back really strong," described Terri of her labor pains.

Terri and Adam had just parked and were beginning to make their way through the hospital's parking lot when Terri's water broke.

"Instantly, I felt like I needed to push. And I felt his head come out," continued Terri.

"I was thinking, ‘This isn't normal,'" laughed Adam, at his wife's hospital bedside. Terri continued to hold Lorcan in her arms.

Adam yelled for help, as his wife yelled out in pain. At least three nurses rushed out of the building to the couple's aid.

"We laid her back down (on the pavement) because we did see the head," continued Adam.

The nurses held Terri's head and hands, making sure she was as comfortable as possible.

"Once they laid me down, they pulled my pants all the way down to my ankles," said Terri of the unexpected delivery.

"We decided it was time for her to push because (the baby's) umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck," added Adam. "I just reached down there, and out he popped."

Nearly two dozen hospital nurses and attendants swarmed the parking lot.

"It was a party in the parking lot," the couple laughed.

Terri says during those intense moments she didn't care where Lorcan decided to reveal himself.

"I just didn't care. I wanted him out… And I knew he was going to be safe," she continued.

Lorcan is Terri and Adam's seventh child. When asked if there could ever be another surprise delivery, Terri replied, "How could you top (this one)!"

Terri and Lorcan are both healthy. The family says they're very grateful for the caring nurses, and everyone who rushed to their side at St. Mary's Hospital.
