MID-MICHIGAN (WNEM) -

Many Verizon Wireless customers were without cell phone service in areas of Bay City and Saginaw for a period of time Friday afternoon.

According to Paul Ulreich, Interim Public Relations Manager for Verizon Wireless, a local telephone company reported a fiber cut in the Bay City area and that caused many people to lose service.

It is unclear as to how many people were affected by the outage.

Officials tell TV5 that crews worked vigorously to fix the problem and service should have been restored to customers around 4 p.m. Friday afternoon.
