Conditions beginning to improve on local roadways

Posted: Updated:
SAGINAW COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

Several local roads are still under water and officials are urging residents not to drive through the flooded areas.

Conditions are improving but recent rain caused flooding that turned the area intersections into a lake, forcing many roads to close.

TV5 spoke with the Saginaw County Road Commission to find out the status of the flood and the closed roads. They say conditions are slowly improving.

"It's supposed to crest Thursday at 17.5 feet. And were even seeing signs of receding here. But we're supposed to get some additional run off from the snow we had Tuesday," says Dennis Borchard, Managing Director of the Saginaw County Road Commission.

According to the road commission, this year's floods can be called moderate compared to last year and water levels are not expected to last much longer.

So while the water levels may be going down a bit, there's still people who live in the areas that are under a few feet of water.

Also, road closures will remain for the time being. The road commission says the police will ticket people who travel through the closed areas.
