EAST LANSING, MI (WNEM) -

It was a day of smiles and plenty of tears as people gathered at Michigan State University to remember one of its biggest and brightest supporters.

Eight-year-old Lacey Holsworth gained national attention, and captured hearts across the country, after forming a special bond with Spartan star Adreian Payne.

Lacey passed away last week after a battle with cancer. And on Thursday night thousands of people packed the Breslin Center on campus for her memorial.

On Thursday night it was a thank you, honoring the life of Lacey Holsworth, who at just eight years young tugged at all of our hearts.

The little girl who we all called "Princess Lacey" had a captivating heart and smile.  Her courageous battle against cancer ended just last week.

Her story reminded us that life is bigger than just our challenges.  It reminded us life's about what you do with it, and who you touch.

On Thursday night it was a tribute to the Spartan Princess, for the eight year old who taught us again what it is to love life and love others.
