SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

Refusing to hire someone because of their sexual orientation soon may cost local business owners.

City leaders may ban discrimination against gay and transgender individuals.

They're expected to vote on a proposed ordinance at their meeting Monday, April 21.

The ordinance would make discrimination based on sexual orientation a civil infraction, violators could face up to a $500 fine.

It would cover businesses and organizations within city borders.

The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall.
