Bridges closed because of safety concerns

Posted: Updated:
SAGINAW COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

Two Mid-Michigan bridges are being shut down after inspections found structural deficiencies.

The Saginaw County Road Commission was doing routine inspections when they found the problems. It caused Bueche Road over the Pattie Creek in Albee Township to be shut down yesterday.

Steel Road over the South Branch of the Bad River in Chapin and Brady Townships is also closing.

Both structures were previously posted with limited allowable weight limits of three tons; however deterioration progressed to the point where the commission couldn't ensure the safety of people traveling on the bridges.

Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes.

It's not clear when the bridges will re-open.
