Man's death ruled homicide

Posted: Updated:

Authorities have a mystery on their hands, who murdered Albee Township resident Scott Humphrey.

He was found dead inside his home on Wednesday. At first, investigators ruled his death as suspicious. But after an autopsy, investigators ruled this case is a homicide. The medical examiner said the 52-year-old died from a gunshot wound. Now police are trying to find the killer.

"At this point everyone's a suspect," Saginaw County Sheriff William Federspiel said.

Rex Grzenia used to live near Humphrey.  He said the victim kept to himself.

"Never had no issues with him or any problems with him you know? He seemed to get along with everybody around the neighborhood that he talked to," Grzenia said.

He said the news of Humphrey's death comes as a surprise.

With the killer still on the loose Federspiel urges everyone in the area to keep their guard up.

"We would just ask people to be vigilant. You know if you're at home even in Albee Township lock your doors. Make sure the security in your home is good," Federspiel said.

Federspiel also said his staff is working round the clock to solve the murder, calling Humphrey's death the department's top priority.  He has a message for whoever is responsible for taking Humphrey's life.

"Come forward and turn yourself in because it will be a lot easier on you if you do that. If we have to find you we will, but we'd expect that you turn yourself in," he said.

Police said Humphrey ran a carpet cleaning business. Whether that put him in danger is one of the questions investigators are asking.

Humphrey was the owner of S&H Carpet Cleaning in Saginaw.

There's no word on a suspect and police don't currently have any leads in the case. There is a $25-hundred reward for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of Humphrey's killer.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Saginaw County Sheriff's Department at 989-790-5446 or CRIMESTOPPERS.
