Authorities say a truck crash and liquid asphalt spill have shut down a stretch of freeway in the Lansing area and sent two people to the hospital.
The crash early Monday forced officials to close eastbound Interstate 96 along with one westbound lane. Other area traffic is affected.
WLNS-TV and WWJ-AM report the tanker truck was carrying liquid asphalt when it rolled, spilling its load.
The Ingham County sheriff's department says the truck's driver and another motorist were injured in the crash and taken to a hospital for treatment.
Authorities say the crash spilled 5,000 to 10,000 gallons of liquid asphalt. Another truck was brought in to off-load the material. The Lansing State Journal reports that the truck was hauling 10,500 gallons. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
