Lightning may have sparked fire at bookstore

GENESEE COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

At least one local business is recovering from a round of lightning strikes.

Jellybeans Bookstore in Flint is gone after lightning burned it to the ground.

The Jellybean was a family owned and operated business since the 70s.

Patrons said the Jellybean represented more than a business and more than a bookstore. It represented an entire community.

Now what's left are dozens of books and 100s of charred pages scattered throughout a place where people called home.

Word of the fire spread on social media. People left comments and condolences on Facebook.

Crews were called to the Jellybeans used bookstore in Grand Blanc Township around 8 p.m. Wednesday.

A witness said it looked like the building was hit by lightning just before the fire began.

At this point there is no word on injuries.
