Teachers could be forced to take nearly 20 percent pay cut

FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

Teachers in a local school district could bear the burden as the district looks to balance the budget.

Teachers in the Flint school district would face a significant pay cut of up to 19-percent in pay.

They would also get a new form of health insurance. In all, the cuts would total about $6 million in savings over the next few years.

Flint schools are looking to erase a $19 million deficit. The district hopes to have that budget balanced by June of 2018.

The teachers union will hold a ratification vote sometime next week.
