Wildcats' Passalaqua and Ivie to represent UA at Pac-12 Multis

The University of Arizona Wildcat No. 25 men's and No. 12 women's track and field teams will each have an athlete compete in the Pac-12 Championships Combined Events. The meet for the heptathletes and decathletes will take place on May 10-11 in Pullman, Wash. Washington State's Mooberry Track and Field Complex is where the meet will be held.

Per the NCAA, the Heptathlon and Decathlon events are not contested at the Preliminary Championships Competition. Qualification to the championships in these two events is accomplished through a competitor's position on the national descending order list. The top 24 declared student-athletes in each of these two events will be accepted into the national championships. Declaration for these two events is completed during the one and only declaration period, which is prior to the Preliminary Championships Competition.

Arizona will compete against Arizona State, California, Colorado, Oregon, Oregon State, Stanford, UCLA, USC, Utah, Washington and Washington State.

The U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) released the week five rankings for the 2014 outdoor season on May 6. The men's team is ranked No. 25 and the women are ranked 12th. In the men's rankings, Oregon is fourth, UCLA is 12th, USC is 14th and Stanford is 22nd. On the women's side, Oregon is No. 3, Stanford is No. 9, USC is No. 10, Arizona State is No. 16 and Colorado is No. 22.

Senior Amber Passalaqua will compete in her second heptathlon of the 2014 season. Her first came at the Jim Click Combined Events when she had a personal-best score of 5,235, the No. 10 total in UA history. On the year, Passalaqua has posted personal-best marks in four of the seven events. Her season-best time of 25.64 in the 200 meters came at the Jim Click Multis. In her only time running the 800 meters, she clocked a time of 2:24.10. She clocked a personal-best time of 13.98 in the 100-meter hurdles at the LSU Alumni Gold. Her season-best clearance of 5-5.25 (1.66m) in the high jump came at the UA-ASU-NAU Double Dual as well. She long jumped 19-3.25 (5.87m) at the UA-ASU-NAU Double Dual. Passalaqua had a personal-best toss of 37-6 (11.43m) in the shot put at the Jim Click Multis. Her toss of 112-3 (34.21m) in the javelin at the UA-ASU-NAU Double Dual was a personal best. Passalaqua enters the competition with the fourth-best score in the Pac-12. However, only 174 points separate her and Alexis Walker (UCLA) who has the No. 1 mark entering the competition.

Redshirt sophomore Harrison Ivie will compete in the decathlon for the Wildcats. He has posted personal-best marks in eight of the ten events this season. His personal-best mark of 11.22 in the 100-meter dash came at the Jim Click Multis. He ran 52.03 in the 400 meters and 15.55 in the 110-meter hurdles at the Jim Click Multis as well, both were personal bests. He cleared 6-4 (1.93m) in the high jump, he also cleared 14-5.25 (4.40m) in the pole vault and long jumped 22-0.75 (6.72m) at the Jim Click Multis, all were personal bests. Ivie had a season-best toss of 40-8.75 (12.41m) in the shot put at the Jim Click Multis but his personal-best toss of 133-4 (40.65m) in the discus came at the UA-ASU-NAU Double Dual. At the Pepsi Oregon Dual, Ivie had a personal-best throw of 181-7 (55.34m) in the javelin. Ivie ran the 1,500-meter race in 5:02.50 at the Jim Click Multis. In his only decathlon of the season thus far, Ivie posted a personal-best score of 6.895. That mark is currently fifth in the Pac-12.

Lawi Lalang is the All-time Men's Watch List appearance leader with 22, including six this season. His is Arizona's 24th appearance on the Men's Watch List, second as a program only to to Florida's 63. Nick Ross returned to the "Also Receiving Votes" List. It was announced on Wednesday, May 7.

Along with fellow returning The Bowerman Finalist Julian Wruck of UCLA, he will attempt to become just the second male student-athlete to repeat as a Finalist , the other, Ashton Eaton of Oregon, won The Bowerman in his second appearance in 2010.

The Wildcats have had three student-athletes earn Pac-12 Athlete of the Week honors on four occasions this year. Julie Labonte was named Pac-12 Women's Field Athlete of the Week on April 1 and April 15. Avery Mickens claimed Pac-12 Men's Field Athlete of the Week on April 8. Nick Ross earned the same honor as Mickens on April 15 and May 6.

On May 3, the UA women beat ASU and NAU in the double dual meet that was also the Wildcats senior night. The men's team fell to ASU but beat NAU. The women's 4x100-meter relay team of Tamara Pridgett, Shapri Romero, Traci-Lynn Hicks and Germe Poston set another school record, running 44.27. Romero also clocked a personal-best time of 51.96 in the 400 meters, the No. 2 time in school history and No. 6 in the country this year. Nick Ross won the men's high jump competition with a school-record mark of 7-6.5 (2.30m). It is the No. 1 collegiate mark in the country this year and No. 5 in the world.
