The University of Arizona Wildcat No. 25 men's and No. 12 women's track and field teams each had an athlete compete during day one of the Pac-12 Championships Combined Events. The meet for the heptathletes and decathletes takes place on May 10-11 in Pullman, Wash. Washington State's Mooberry Track and Field Complex is where the meet is being held.
Senior Amber Passalaqua finished the first day of competition with 3,189 points and sits in second place overall. She began the day with a time of 14.30 (-1.0 wind) in the 100-meter hurdles, good for 936 points overall. Passalaqua cleared 5-4.5 (1.64m) in the high jump, tallying 783 points. She had the No. 3 toss of her career in the shot put at 37-2.5 (11.34m), scoring 618 points. Passalaqua finished the day with the No. 2 time of her career in the 200-meter dash at 25.38 (0.0 wind), scoring 852 points. Alexis Walker (UCLA) leads with 3,345 points.
Redshirt sophomore Harrison Ivie sits in ninth place after day one with 3,567 points. He started the day with a time of 11.20 (+2.8 wind) in the 100-meter dash, the fastest all-conditions time of his career, tallying 817 points. Ivie scored 688 points in the long jump with his mark of 21-2.5 (6.46m, 0.0 wind). He had the second-best toss of his career in the shot put with a mark of 41-8.5 (12.71m), good for 650 points Ivie cleared 6-1.5 (1.87m) in the high jump and added 687 points to his tally. In the 400-meter race, Ivie clocked a time of 51.99, a personal best that was good for 725 points. Viktor Fajoyomi (USC) sits in first place with 4,181 points.
Per the NCAA, the Heptathlon and Decathlon events are not contested at the Preliminary Championships Competition. Qualification to the championships in these two events is accomplished through a competitor's position on the national descending order list. The top 24 declared student-athletes in each of these two events will be accepted into the national championships. Declaration for these two events is completed during the one and only declaration period, which is prior to the Preliminary Championships Competition.
