ESSEXVILLE, MI (WNEM) -

An Essexville woman is behind bars after she allegedly opened fire on the ex-boyfriend of her daughter.

The incident happened Monday afternoon around 4:30 p.m. at an apartment complex on the 800 block of Schuerman Road.

Officers initially received a complaint of an unwanted person at the home. When they arrived on the scene, they heard gunshots and saw two people running from the area.

The mother, 58-year-old Jean Anne Johnson, went to the home because her daughter was allegedly involved in a fight with the ex. When the mother arrived on the scene, she allegedly pulled a gun and fired at the man.

She was taken into custody. She was arraigned on eight felony counts in a Bay County courtroom on Tuesday.

She has been charged with Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm, Carrying a Weapon with Unlawful Intent, Felony Firearms and several other weapons charges.

She has bonded out of jail.
