Rain causes road construction delay

Posted: Updated:

The rainy weather and other factors have caused a few delays to area road projects.

Spring has sprung in Mid-Michigan, bringing with it rain and lots of it the last few weeks. This has caused a slight delay in some major construction projects.

Cathy Wilson hit the road Wednesday morning heading towards I-475 where the road construction has been delayed a few times because of rain.

"Around the Flint area, around Bay City, Saginaw, it has really been bad and then they don't give you much warning either. They will say the next four miles, then all of a sudden, you're in the middle of it," Wilson said.

She said dealing with those orange barrels can be frustrating.

"It's terrible because people, they want to go and you can't go. Nobody's going anywhere," Wilson said.

Another area impacted by the weather is the night time ramp closure at Miller Road, one of about 35 planned ramp closures this year.

"We have some lead time. We are trying to get some of the work done by Memorial Day, so we are still shooting for the work that needs to be done, but we also have some projects that need longer pavement cure time than others. So we are looking to get the work done, but we have to work with mother nature," said Anita Richardson with MDOT.

Some drivers said delay or not, the work has to be done.

Those road crews are out in full force working on a number of projects, but they can't get to them all at the same time.
