BAY CITY, MI (WNEM) -

Word is starting to get out that people will soon be able to check into a big, brand new hotel being built in Mid-Michigan.

The courtyard by Marriott-Bay City is being advertised by the people at Pure Michigan.

A four-story courtyard by Marriott Hotel is taking shape in Bay City. It's one of the main buildings in the Uptown at the RiversEdge complex next to the Saginaw River.

"People love to come downtown. They love to come and have meetings here," said Candace Bales, Bay City downtown development authority chief.

Bales is elated that news is starting to get out that the new hotel is slated to open in December. The Pure Michigan website is letting the world know about the courtyard by Marriott.

"Pure Michigan takes it to another level. We are a destination, a place worth spending time worth visiting for a day or a weekend or maybe bringing your business," Bales said.

Bales said the arrival of the Marriott will boost the Doubletree and other hotels by making Bay City an attractive convention location.

"The Marriott only extends that option, we understand that they'll be able to partner with the other hotel and have larger conferences that are now being turned away," Bales said.

The riverwalk into Uptown would link the Doubletree and the Marriott through walkable space less than half a mile away.

The courtyard by Marriott will add another 97 rooms, three suites and two meeting rooms for meetings and conventions.

Once finished, the Uptown at RiversEdge project will also feature Dow Corning, McLaren Healthcare and Chemical Bank.
