Verruckt water slide opening delayed

KANSAS CITY, KS (KCTV) -

The Schlitterbahn water park announced Wednesday afternoon that the launch of the world's tallest water slide has been delayed.

Verruckt's opening is now scheduled for June 5.

Officials say they need more time to fine tune the water coaster before park goers are allowed to ride it.

Layne Pitcher, park spokesman, said this is a one-of-kind ride that officials want to do right and unexpected things have cropped up that must be dealt with. Park officials declined to detail what those issues are.

Earlier this month, the Guinness Book of World Records certified Schlitterbahn's newest water coaster as the world's tallest. The height is 168 feet and 7 inches.

Verruckt, which is German for insane, is expected to be a game-changer for water parks.

Riders will have to climb 264 steps to the top before being flung down in four-person rafts.

Verruckt bested one in Brazil that towers 163 feet and 9 inches in the sky.

Some thrill seekers said they are disappointed by the delay, but understand that safety comes first.
