Man charged in abduction, sexual assault case

Posted: Updated:

Police said a man has been charged in a kidnapping, that started when a 15-year-old girl was abducted while walking to a bus stop in Mt. Morris.

They said Andre Ogburn took her to an apartment at 1822 Bennett Ave. on Flint's east side where he proceeded to sexually assault her.

The girl said she was held against her will for days.

"He brutalized her, he terrorized her," said Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton.

Leyton said Ogburn grabbed the Mt. Morris teen on her way to the bus stop Monday, May 12.

"During that time he essentially raped her. We have two counts of criminal sexual conduct in the first degree. Two counts of criminal sexual conduct in the second degree. A count of kidnapping and a count of strangulation," Leyton said.

The prosecutor said the teen was able to escape the two day horror by calling 911 on a cell phone she had. The cell phone had been disabled, but worked enough to make the 911 call that might have saved her life.

"That's when police came and arrested this man soon there after. My understanding is he held her in the attic of the residents, so that's where we think this occurred, in the attic," Leyton said.

There's no indication Ogburn had any help in committing these crimes and no indication he knew the victim.

"We have to be very vigilant to protect one another and to protect public safety. We have to really come together as a community and look out for one another. It's not enough just to look out for yourself and your own loved ones. You really have to love thy neighbor," Leyton said.

If convicted on the most serious charges, Ogburn could spend the rest of his life behind bars.
