SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

Two women had to dodge bullets early Thursday morning after two men who were in the apartment beneath them chased them out of their apartment and fired gunshots.

Police were called to Woodlawn Street after shots were fired at the women, ages 19 and 20, about 2 a.m. said Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney.

One of the victims had recently moved into a second-floor apartment and was entertaining guests. Two of their friends were outside the apartment and got into a verbal argument.

The two gunmen went outside and told the girls to keep quiet. They said they didn't want any police attention because they had "stuff" on the first floor, Delaney said.

The friends went inside and continued their fight upstairs. The men then went upstairs armed with guns and kicked down a door. They chased the girls out of the apartment and fired shots in the area, Delaney said.

Police charged Leroy Machuca, 28, of 44 Chapel St., and Ramon Valle, 35, of 788 Belmont Ave. with home invasion later in the morning. Machuca was also charged with giving an officer a false name, and he was charged with a warrant. Police did not specify what the warrant was for.

The case remains under investigation and other charges could be filed. The two men were held overnight and arraigned in Springfield District Court Thursday.
