In early Spring of this year advocates in Toledo began circulating a petition to decriminalize marijuana which has other advocates considering similar petitions in different cities.

Cher Nuefer founded the Ohio chapter of NORML which stands for the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws and if the Toledo effort is successful she says she might consider one of two options.

"Other cities are looking into doing something similar either through ballot initiative or ordinance," said Cher Nuefer.

Ohio NORML has 7 chapters across the state.

The chapter in Toledo has gathered 2,800 signatures and needs another 3,800  to put the measure on the November ballot.

The measure is called The Sensible Marijuana Ordinance and it would prohibit police from citing or arresting misdemeanor marijuana users or sellers.
