ROYAL OAK, Mich. (AP) -

Authorities say a 69-year-old woman is dead and her son is in custody following an early-morning house fire and explosion in suburban Detroit.

Police and fire crews in Royal Oak responded around 1 a.m. Friday to a call from a woman saying she was concerned that her son planned to blow up the house. Police say there was heavy smoke coming from the house by the time they arrived.

The Detroit News and Detroit Free Press report the body of Maxine Hadley was found in the home.

No charges have been filed. Autopsy results were pending. Police say her 50-year-old son had burns and was being treated at an area hospital.

Police Chief Corrigan O'Donohue says a small propane tank exploded in a basement workroom.
