Tremont, OH (WOIO) -

Friday, May 23, was supposed to be an evening of celebration, with a launch party for the CAN Journal at the Loren Naji Studio Gallery on West 25th.

The event was scheduled from 6-9 p.m. but ended sooner than anyone would expect.

Around 7:30 p.m. the Cleveland Fire Department arrived and instructed all attendees to leave the premises.

According to Naji, CFD said the issue dealt with an occupancy permit, which Naji states he was in the process of obtaining.

Naji says he was given the green light to host the event as the process was underway.

What further concerns Naji is that he says the event was "dry", meaning that there were no alcoholic beverages served and that it was also free for attendees.

He says his frustration comes from trying to help the Cleveland art scene and feeling under attack while trying to help local artists.

This raid comes just three weeks after the gallery was shut down on May 2 by Cleveland Police after they received a noise complaint.

State liquor agents confiscated an estimated $600 worth of beer and wine.

19 Action News did reach out to the Cleveland Fire Department public information officer but he was unavailable for comment at the time.
