5-year-old possibly attacked by dog

OGEMAW COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

A local family is upset after they claim their 5-year-old son was attacked by a neighbor's dog.

The boy is recovering, but he was left with plenty of wounds.

The family is hoping the same thing doesn't happen to other kids, but there's just one problem. They said the owner fled with his dog just minutes after the attack, and now he is nowhere to be found.

"He was over at the white house and when I went to the mailbox he came over and he bit me," 5-year-old Levi Hudson said.

Levi said he was attacked on Sunday, by what his family describes as a pit bull, in front of his house.

He said he tried to get away, but the dog jumped on top of him and pinned him to the ground, biting him repeatedly in the leg and back.

"And that's how I knew the dog got me," Levi said.

Neighbors in the Alger community are furious. Levi's parents are both outraged and at the same time traumatized.

"It's the scariest thing that a mother can go through," said Angela Hudson, Levi's mother.

Angela and Mervin Hudson said they ran outside when they heard Levi screaming. They said they saw a man pulling his pit bull off their son. They said the man was visiting a home down the street and left without even knowing the extent of Levi's injuries.

The Hudsons are dog owners themselves and have called police to make a report. They said they want the authorities to contact the owner to find out if the dog is up to date with immunizations.

They also want to find out how the dog got away from its owner and into their yard.

Meanwhile Levi said mommy and daddy are taking some precautions to help him cope with his fear of being attacked again.

"Mommy said we are getting a fence and the only one who can be in there is our dog," Levi said.

Levi is expected to make a full recovery, but his parents said he is disappointed will miss his last few games of T-ball.
