Man accused of fatal Bay City shooting arraigned

The man accused of shooting and killing a man outside a Bay County bar has been charged with murder.

Cruz Hinds, 24, was formally charged with killing 38-year-old Alfred Watts.

Prosecutors said Hinds confessed to the weekend shooting outside of Tubby's Pub in Bay City.

Watts' family stood by in agony as the man accused of killing their loved one was charged with murder.

"He had a baby on the way that he is not going to be able to see," said Deeana Rybkowski, mother-in-law of Watts.

Hinds was arraigned on open murder and firearm charges. The Bay County Prosecutor's Office said Hinds admitted he was the gunman who shot and killed Watts early Saturday morning.

The prosecutors officer said Hinds chased Watts down and shot him five or six times.

Bay City Police Capt. Joe Lenava believes this was not a random act.

"There were some issues that happened earlier at a different location, but again, we're still investigating," Lenava said.

Police said there are more witnesses they want to talk to.

"There were a lot of people inside the business at that time who fled the area, so we're looking for any and all information we can get," Lenava said.

While police look for more witnesses and possibly anyone else involved, Hinds will sit behind bars. His bond was denied.

Meanwhile, some family members, despite the terrible tragedy, are trying to forgive their loved one's accused killer.

"I don't hate the man who did it, but it's going to take time to heal because he took the father of my grandbaby," Rybkowski said.

Hinds is next scheduled to be in court for his preliminary exam on June 9.
