Residents upset after dogs allegedly left to wander neighborhood

Posted: Updated:

People in a neighborhood in the Bay County community of Auburn are upset about some dogs living nearby.

They say three unruly pit bulls are allegedly left outside without a leash and they're worried someone is going to get hurt.

As children play in the neighborhood, parents like Julie Decaire and her husband are on the lookout.

"I didn't really realize there were dogs there, until the one night they were in my backyard," says Decaire.

Neighbors in the area say they've called the Bay County Animal Control but say by the time they arrive, the dogs are back inside. So there isn't much they can do.

Neighbors also say they've even complained to the township supervisor about the pitbull problem. Some have even complained about the condition of the property.

TV5 spoke to the owner of the former Pear Grove Farm Market, which is for sale. He says township officials have been on him to keep the property looking nice. As for the pitbulls, he says he's told the tenants they need to keep the dogs on a leash when they're out. Other than that, his hands are tied.

Fortunately there have only been close calls but neighbors hope something is done about the unruly dogs before someone gets hurt.

TV5 put in a call to animal control but were not able to reach anyone. We'll keep you posted.
