While bearing a handgun, a Springfield man chased guests out of his apartment with a circular power saw while the blade was rotating.
Police responded to 341 Allen St. about 10:30 p.m. Sunday to find a frantic and distraught mother in the driveway. She told police that her daughter's boyfriend wanted everyone who did not live in his apartment to leave, according to a news release from Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney.
That's when the man, identified as 23-year-old Calvin Vasquez, who was already armed with a .38 caliber pistol, retrieved an electric saw from a back bedroom, Delaney said.
Vasquez then put the battery pack in, turned the saw on and charged the guests, including his girlfriend's mother.
Responding officers witnessed Vasquez attempt to leave the scene down the driveway, which prompted them to draw their guns for safety. Vasquez, who resides at 341 Allen St., was arrested without incident and charged with four counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of ammunition, and improper storage of a firearm, Delaney said.
It is unclear what sent Vasquez into a rage, and investigating officers believe he just wanted people out of his apartment, Delaney said.
Vasquez was scheduled to be arraigned in Springfield District Court Monday morning.
