BBB Alert: Summer caregiver scam could cost you thousands

Posted: Updated:
TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

This summer, many young people are looking for jobs as babysitters, caregivers or nannies for young children.

Many go online to web sites specializing in finding jobs for sitters, but the Better Business Bureau is warning they could be swindled out of thousands of dollars.

Of course, there are several legitimate web sites which help find jobs for young people as sitters.

Some others are scams, though. For example, in one such rouse a dignified-sounding man needs a caregiver for his child, but you must spend some money first. He sends you a check for thousands more than the purchase price of the item. He claims it was a mistake and asks you to send him a refund.

Don't do it! The BBB says check is counterfeit.

The BBB says never to trust overpayments. The checks often look real, but the whole story is a fake.
