FREELAND, MI (WNEM) -
A local NFL star once again pays it forward to the community with his Play it Forward event.
Lamarr Woodley's Celebrity Weekend features a football camp for kids.
The event teed off with a golf tournament on Friday.
Golfers mashed balls across Apple Mountain in the fundraiser. The money they forked over to play will help support student athletes whose families may struggle with pay-to-play athletic fees.
"When I was younger I was in that situation, so that's why I come back and I do so much now because I know what's needed and like I said, when we come back here and do these events it's definitely due to the support of people coming out here," Woodley said.
This event not only attracts local residents, but football players from the NFL were also there swinging clubs on Friday.
The locals are proud of Woodley and his foundation.
There will be a celebrity bowl-a-thon Friday night to raise money for the Woodley foundation and on Saturday there's a free youth football camp for area youngsters.
