Bay City Western baseball and softball teams win D1 state championships

EAST LANSING, MI (WNEM) -

Bay City Western's baseball and softball teams pulled off a rare feat today, winning Division 1 state titles in both sports.

The baseball team rode a complete game pitching effort from Jason Clark to beat Grosse Pointe South, 6-2.

Clark threw 7 innings, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits. He struck out 5 and walked none.

Clark also led the Warriors at the plate, going 3-for-4 and scoring 2 runs. Justin Gorr chipped in with 2 hits and 2 RBI.

This is the 2nd straight state championship for the BCW baseball team.

Meanwhile, in the D1 softball state title game, Bay City Western topped Portage Central, 4-2.

Senior pitcher Hannah Leppek threw a complete game, giving up 2 runs, 3 hits, while striking out six.

7 different players got hits for BCW, with Kaylynn Carpenter, Blair Miller, and Melissa Wegener all knocking in a run apiece.

This is the 1st ever state title win for BCW's softball program.
