HURON COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

Police are investigating after a man allegedly assaulted a bar patron and drove his vehicle into the bar.

Huron Central Dispatch received a call from Shelley's Bar and Grill on Pearson Road in Port Austin Township about a disturbance taking place. The incident happened around 2:30 a.m. Sunday morning.

After allegedly assaulting one of the patrons, a 24-year-old Elkton man smashed his vehicle into the outside wall of the business.

He then took off in his vehicle and drove across a lawn, running over signs and trees in the process. He then fled on foot and was eventually apprehended by officers with the Bad Axe Police Department and Michigan State Police.

The suspect remains jailed on charges of second offense-operating under the influence, second offense-driving while license suspended and fleeing and eluding.

He will be formally charged Monday.
