The 2014 Bay City River Roar, presented by Maier and Associates, is set to take place next weekend, but illness has caused last minute lineup changes for one of the concert events.
Theory of a Deadman lead singer Tyler Connoly has been ordered on a long-term vocal rest. Because of that, the group has been forced to cancel a number of appearances, including their stop in Mid-Michigan.
"I've already seen them once before, and was really excited to see them again," Michelle Streeter said.
Streeter is a huge fan of the rock band Theory of a Deadman. When she heard they were headlining at River Roar this year she bought tickets right away.
But when she heard about a change to the concert lineup she said it was a big disappointment.
"I was going to bring my 15-year-old daughter for the first time. Most venues she can't get in. But she could here so she's pretty disappointed also," Streeter said.
Concert promoter Chad Cunningham said late last week the River Roar staff was notified the lead singer for Theory of a Deadman had been ordered to rest his voice long-term.
"He had to cancel two months worth of shows and one of them unfortunately was our show," Cunningham said.
He understands why some fans are upset. That's why he was quick to book a replacement band just two weeks before the show.
"We wanted to make sure the show still went on. So we talked to the agency who offered us Saliva. So we booked them and also added Brett James to try to give you three bands and keep it the same so people can still have a great evening out and still help the charities," Cunningham said.
Streeter said it's not her first choice, but she is still considering attending the show anyway, especially since the proceeds go to local charities.
"Because of that I think we still probably might go because it is for a good cause even though it wasn't what we were planning on seeing," Streeter said.
Saliva is well known for its hits Click, Click, Boom and Ladies & Gentlemen along with many others.
Saliva will now perform with Fuel on Friday night, along with up and comer Brent James. Alice Cooper will take the stage Saturday night.
The Bay City River Roar runs from June 27-29. WNEM TV5 is a proud sponsor of the event.
