TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

There is a new plane taking to the skies above Tucson.

For the next three months an AC130R will be conducting flight training, the new plane is just one of six purchased by the Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force.  These purchases were made via the NAVAIRS Tactical Airlift, Adversary and Support Aircraft Program (PMA-207) Foreign Military Sales office.  All are regenerated C-130R Hercules aircraft.

The single aircraft will begin flying today and is sporting a unique sky blue paint scheme, with red symbols on the fuselage and under the wings, reminiscent of the 'circle of sun' on the Japanese flag.
