Chesterfield police have identified the victims in a shooting that happened Sunday night in Matoaca.

Just after 10 p.m. Sunday, police responded to a residence in the 5700 block of Fox Maple Terrace. When they arrived, police reported hearing several gunshots. Bystanders then attempted to aid Renotta I. Jernigan, 30, and her 2-year-old son Seth, who had been shot.

Inside the home on Fox Maple Terrace, police found Renotta Jernigan's daughter Alexis F. Kellas, 9, and Barry C. Jernigan, 35. Both had been shot, and were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said Renotta Jernigan also died at the scene. Her son Seth was transported to Southside Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said at this point, the investigation indicates that Barry Jernigan shot his son, step-daughter and wife before turning the gun on himself.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information should contact the Chesterfield County Police at 804-748-1251.
