SANDUSKY, MI (WNEM) -

The Sanilac County Sheriff's office responded to a farming accident involving a tractor and a loaded hay wagon on Sunday.

The accident occurred in the 200 block of Henderson Road in Watertown Township.

The Sanilac Central Dispatch received a phone call at 2:50 p.m. from a family member who said two people had been injured and at least one person had been run over by a tractor.

When deputies arrived to the scene they determined an 83-year-old Watertown Township man had been operating a tractor while a 37-year-old Marlette man and a 28-year-old Sandusky woman were hooking up a loaded hay wagon to the tractor.

Deputies believe the operator was unable to stop and pinned both victims between the tractor and wagon, causing both victims to receive serious injuries.

Two helicopters were dispatched to the scene. Both of the victims were airlifted, one to Covenant Hospital and the other to St. Mary's hospital in Saginaw.

The 28-year-old Sandusky woman was airlifted from the scene and the male victim was airlifted from McKenzie Memorial Hospital in Sandusky.

Deputies were assisted by Sanilac Ambulance and the Sandusky Fire Department.
