A former Navy corpsman who lost his leg while serving in Iraq fulfilled a dream today: to try out for a spot on a minor league baseball team.
Daniel "Doc" Jacobs of San Diego attended the Chicago White Sox Minor League open tryouts Tuesday at Regions Field.
He has undergone around 60 surgeries after losing his leg below is left knee as well as some of his fingers and toes.
However, he's serious about becoming a big leaguer.
"I grew up playing high school baseball...And then my dad told me, 'Go be a man, go serve your country. And then there'll be plenty time for baseball when you get back.' Little did I know the route is was gonna take. But I'm grateful that I'm here," Jacobs said.
He currently runs marathons on a three-wheel crank bicycle.
