East End Development in Midland gets ready to open doors

Posted: Updated:

The new East End Development in downtown Midland is getting ready to open its doors to the public on Thursday.

The project has been two years in the making, and it's already making a major impact in the downtown area.

"We have more and more employees moving in every day," said Selina Tisdale, Midland's Downtown Development Authority director.

Hundreds of workers moved into their new office spaces already.

Tisdale said the brand-new four-story building brings contemporary style as well as almost twice as many employees to the downtown area.

"About 700 employees are working here at this building which almost doubles the amount of employees we have in all of downtown Midland," Tisdale said.

Kurt Silvis opened up State Street Restaurant just over a week ago.

He said the lunch crowd continues to grow as more employees move into the building.

"We've had a lot of people that have stopped by and tried us out," Silvis said.

The Downtown Development Authority can't wait for the public to come and check it out.

"Just a good chance for people to come in and be a part of the building they've watched being constructed for so long," Tisdale said.

Organizers will celebrate the development's grand opening on Thursday with a block party featuring food, live music and a beverage tent.

Tisdale said it's a great time to check out all that the building has to offer.

"Now that it's complete and more people will be moving into the building there's a lot of excitement about how it enhances the downtown area," Tisdale said.

The grand opening celebration is free to attend and takes place from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
