Flint public transportation cuts kick in

Posted: Updated:
FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

Those who ride the bus in Flint may have to be waiting a little longer for service as cuts made by the city's Mass Transportation Authority that take effect Monday.

To make up for lost funds, the MTA will make some temporary changes for this summer.

Monday through Saturday, the daytime bus routes will only run one bus per route, instead of two as they do now. That's from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and it could mean waiting longer at the stop.

The evening services for regular routes will stop at 6:30 p.m. Currently, the routes end at 9:30 p.m. Those late riders can still sign up for a prearranged ride service called 'Your Ride'.

MTA will also be cutting seven staff positions. The changes and cuts are mainly in response to this year's brutal winter.

MTA says they are planning to restore the daytime and evening service by September.
