A familiar name is taking the reins at Saginaw Valley State University. Long time faculty member Donald Bachand became just the fourth president in the history of the university.
It's been 25 years since SVSU selected a new president and many were on hand to welcome him.
Bachand is already thinking about what needs to be done as president. He says he is looking to meet the challenges the university is facing.
"Our biggest challenge is to continue to improve our academic programs and make them extremely relevant for the marketplace," says Bachand.
In it's 50 years, SVSU has only had four presidents, so there is tradition at the university that Bachand says he hopes to continue.
"It's pretty special, a very significant responsibility but I've got a lot of time here. I know what we are interested in doing and I know what kind of commitment to our students and faculty. I feel very comfortable moving into the role," continued Bachand.
The president of Delta College, Jean Goodnow, also attended the ceremony.
