MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC) - A 13-year-old accused in the shooting death of his 10-year-old sister will stand trial.

The teen completed his second mental health evaluation, and a special judge determined the child mentally competent to appreciate the wrongfulness of his actions. He will have a delinquency hearing in Juvenile Court on August 13.

The boy faces charges of second-degree murder, reckless endangerment, and tampering with evidence.

Investigators say he shot his sister on April 21, because she "dared" him to fire.

If the teen is found guilty, prosecutors say they will ask for the maximum penalty, which would keep him in juvenile detention until he is 19.

WMC Action News 5 chose not to identify the teenager because he is charged as a juvenile in the case.
