PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A sheriff's detention officer deployed his Taser on a homeless man brandishing two knives and making threatening statements, the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office said.

The 33-year-old man, identified as Jesse Bustos Arce, was booked into jail on disorderly conduct charges.

Arce emerged from the men's bathroom in the lobby of the Fourth Avenue Jail on Monday morning carrying the two knives and uttering threats, MCSO said.

When he refused orders to drop the weapons, surveillance video shows sheriff's personnel rushed in with weapons drawn. A detention officer deployed his Taser.

Other officers then quickly subdued Arce without injury or further incident.

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said Arce claimed to be attempting "suicide by cop."

Arce is currently housed in the sheriff's jail psych unit.
