Bay City's River Roar kicks off this weekend

Posted: Updated:

In just a couple of days the sounds of power boats will fill a Mid-Michigan community.

River Roar is set for this weekend.

Crews were busy cutting down weeds under the grandstands on Wednesday, where crowds will view the power boat races along the Saginaw River.

The speakers that will be used to announce the races were set up and temporary fences went up in Veterans Memorial Park, along with tents. Portable toilets were also set up and ready for use.

Chad Cunningham, concert promoter, was at the park Wednesday morning, getting the stage ready for the big musical concerts, not to mention another new event.

"We're getting excited. It's going to be a great weekend. We're going to have an auto show this year which is new for us, so there's 300 to 400 cars coming in," Cunningham said.

Cunningham said the main musical headliner Alice Cooper promises a big show.

"We did an interview with him and he said Bay City better be ready because he's bringing 28 songs, his full show, 90 minutes and he said you'd better bring a lot of energy," Cunningham said.

River Roar revelers can kick off the event with a pub crawl on Midland Street in Bay City on Thursday.

WNEM TV5 is a proud sponsor of River Roar.
