ROCK HILL, SC (WBTV) - Bond was denied for a Rock Hill man accused of beating his wife in the head with a hammer and then holding her captive in their bedroom.

Rock Hill police say 43-year-old Stanley Gordon beat his wife with a hammer while she was sleeping in the couple's bed.

Gordon told police that he believed his wife was cheating on him.

Officers were called to an apartment in the 800 block of Heckle Blvd. where they found the 40-year-old victim.

According to the report, the woman had a large amount of blood coming from a wound on her head. She was taken to Piedmont Medical Center.

Court testimony revealed that the head wounds required 58 staples. The woman's left arm was reportedly broken in two places and will require surgery, while her right arm was severely sprained as well.

In court, Gordon was accused of repeatedly beating the victim in the head with his hammer.

He's accused of keeping his wife trapped in the bedroom after the attack while she pleaded for Gordon to call medical personnel for her injuries.

He reportedly stood between her and the bedroom door, armed with a hammer and pistol. When she tried to get her car keys, he allegedly took those as well.

When officers arrived at the scene they found an empty gun case on the bed and called a K-9 unit to help search for Gordon.

Police found him along the 700 block of S. York Avenue near the couple's home, according to the report. He took officers to a set of bushes where he'd hidden the hammer and gun.

Gordon is charged with attempted murder, kidnapping, and possession of firearm during a crime of violence.

In court, a judge denied bond and said he was not allowed to have contact with his wife.
