BAY COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

A Bay County Sheriff's Office deputy and medical personnel were called to a home on the 3400 block of North Euclid Avenue for a 3-month-old female who was not breathing on Wednesday.

When they arrived to the scene the deputy and medical personnel found the infant lying on the floor and having difficulty breathing.

The father, 20-year-old Garret Gwizdala, told officials that the infant had rolled onto the floor from his chest while he was lying on the couch.

While officials were treating the infant they discovered she had several bruises on her body that were not consistent with a fall accident, police said.

The Bay County Sheriff's Office conducted an investigation and discovered that Gwizdala was responsible for the injuries the infant had sustained.

Following the investigation, Gwizdala was placed in custody and is currently at the Bay County Jail.

The infant is currently in stable condition.

The Bay County Sheriff's Office was assisted by Bangor Township Fire Department and McLaren Bay Regional Center Ambulance at the scene.

If convicted, Gwizdala could face life in prison.
