Deputies in Greenwood County said a woman has been charged with abuse of a vulnerable adult after a 103-year-old resident at a retirement community said the woman attacked him with a shoe.
Deputies said they were called to Wesley Commons on Marshall Road on June 9 after a patient complained about Okiemute Lott, a caregiver at the facility.
Other caregivers told deputies they had found the victim bleeding from his head and he told them that Lott had hit him with a shoe, according to incident reports.
The reports state that officials questioned Lott about the incident and she said the elderly victim was the one who attacked her.
Deputies said the facility found inconsistencies in Lott's account during an internal investigation.
Deputies said Lott was terminated from the facility and has since been trespassed.
A spokesperson for Wesley Commons said Lott was removed from the patient care environment within minutes of the incident and police were called immediately.
He said she was then placed on suspension pending an investigation and subsequently fired.
