UPDATE 6/28:

Johnson City police said James Sparks, 49, of Kingsport, was killed in a late night accident Friday.

ORIGINAL 6/28:

Johnson City police are investigating a fatal accident involving a car and a cow.

Investigators said a car hit a cow that was on Interstate 26 near mile marker 12 just before 11 o'clock Friday night.

Police said the driver of the car was taken to the hospital, but later died. The name of the victim has not been released at this time.

The Johnson City Police Department Traffic Homicide Team continues to investigate. We will update you with more information as it becomes available.
