Johnson City man arrested for DUI, child endangerment

Posted: Updated:

A Johnson City man was arrested Sunday after police said he was driving under the influence with young children in the car.

At about 5:15 Sunday morning, Johnson City Police officers noticed a black Toyota Camry with license plates that were not illuminated.

According to police, when officers turned around to pull the car over, the driver sped off and ran a stop sign.

Police said when officers caught up to the car, the driver had turned the lights off in an attempt to evade police.

According to police, the driver was Jean Carlo Lopez, 23. Officers said Lopez smelled strongly of alcohol and failed field sobriety tests.

Police found four other people inside the car, two women with two children, ages 3 and 1, on their laps.\

Lopez was arrested and charged with DUI/Child Endangerment, Driving on a Suspended License, two counts of Reckless Endangerment, Failure to Illuminate Plates, and Stop Sign Violation.

He's being held at the Washington County Detention Center of $20,000 bond.
