Trail cam photo released of disruptive dog pack in Saginaw Co.

SAGINAW COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

Residents of a local neighborhood are still on edge 2 after a pack of wild dogs were seen on the loose.

A trail cam photo has been released showing a picture of the pack of dogs.

The dogs were spotted attacking a deer and they allegedly killed someone's dog. Wednesday, authorities have stepped up their efforts to contain the vicious animals.

The dogs were spotted in the area of Stanley, Germania Platz and Green Point Nature Center.

The Saginaw County Sheriff is bringing in a horse and a search plane to look for the dogs.

The Saginaw County Animal Control wants the dogs out of the area, but the search area includes dozens of acres of land.

"They'll go in and step on the plate and the door will shut, and then we'll have them," said Elaine Thompson, interim animal control director.

Thompson said workers are checking the traps at least twice a day.

"See if there's been any action, see if the dogs have been around, check the food, make sure that it's still fresh so the dogs will go in the traps and eat it," Thompson said.

The dogs may be roaming around nearby nature centers including Green Point and the Shiawasee Wildlife Refuge.

Steve Kahl, refuge manager, said he does not want to put any visitors at risk.

"In the process of closing our trails it is a threat to visitors and we want to preserve their safety," Kahl said.

Kahl plans to reopen the trails once the dogs are found. In the meantime his staff is also helping search for the pack.

"The animals seem to be covering a lot of ground and we're still in the process of trying to figure out their habits, so figure out the best place to put the traps," Kahl said.

The refuge and animal control are clear the animals are some sort of dog breed, and not any other animal such as coyotes.

The Saginaw County Animal Control wants residents to be alert and to supervise children while outdoors in the area.

Animal control believes the dogs may have already attacked a domesticated pet.

Pet owners should use caution when leaving their pets outside. Animal control advises owners to only leave their pets outside for short periods of time and to check on them often.

The pack of dogs should not be approached.

Efforts are underway to humanely trap the dogs. Animal control wants residents to leave the traps alone and to call 911 if they see the dogs.
