Mid-Michigan campgrounds fill up for holiday weekend

FRANKENMUTH, MI (WNEM) -

The July 4 holiday is still days away, but Mid-Michigan campgrounds are already filling up.

It's close to a full house at Jellystone Park and Resort in Frankenmuth. Campers are rolling and setting up for the holiday.

"It's really a popular time of year to visit since you can get out, you can walk from our location to any of those," said Cindy Keinath, manager at Jellystone.

She said with so many events going on, reservations have been pouring in.

Sheila Hartman and her family have been on the campgrounds since Saturday, visiting from Troy.

"We love it. It's great adventure, especially if you have kids," Hartman said.

A typical campground has about a six-week window to make their season. It's a bit unique at Jellystone.

"Really just the Fourth of July, second week in August, and with the festivals in the fall, car show and Octoberfest really keep our business going," Keinath said.

While it is getting busy, Jellystone officials said they are still taking reservations for this weekend.
