Law enforcement begins crackdown for holiday weekend

MID-MICHIGAN (WNEM) -

A warning from law enforcement as state and local police are cranking up drunk-driving patrols for the holiday weekend.

The crackdown will involve nearly 150 agencies in 26 counties, and it'll last for the next two weeks.

"We always want to remind people to designate a sober driver or find a sober ride home. Make a plan before you party and see if you can grab a bus or a cab to get home. You want to be able to see the fireworks and have a good time but just plan ahead," says Melody Kindraka from the Office of Highway Safety Planning.

Last year, state police arrested 115 people for drinking and driving.

Troopers will also begin more aggressive patrols on I-75 in the Zilwaukee bridge construction zone.
