NEW LONDON, CT (WFSB) -

A Waterford man was arrested Tuesday and charged with leaving a 9-year-old and a 6-year-old in an unattended vehicle in New London.

New London Police said the vehicle was found just before 5 p.m. in the area of 200 State St., where two young children were sitting inside, "dripping with sweat and faces were reddened from the heat."

A thermometer was placed inside of the vehicle, and read 100 degrees with a 58 percent humidity.

Police arrested John Morgan, 60, of 7 West Strand Rd., Waterford and charged him with two counts risk of injury to a minor.

Morgan allegedly told police he had stepped into his office for "a few minutes," but officers were on the scene for more than 10 minutes before he showed up to his vehicle.

He is being held on a $150,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on July 9.
