Monsoon gives southeast side Italian restaurant a challenge

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Sandbags were the order of the afternoon at Argenziano's Italian Restaurant Tuesday.

"We got hit with this storm that took all the dirt from out here, came across here, in the back door, filled in the restaurant with mud and water," said owner Ray Argenziano.

"(At least it) Didn't wreck the oven," said customer Marian Spitzke.

Roof damage from a Saturday storm led to water damage. Part of the dining room was off limits. But that didn't keep

Spitzke from picking up her order of a sausage pizza.

She said that she has seen enough destruction for awhile, and is not looking forward to what more dark clouds could bring.

"I'm over it. I was excited for the rain to come but now I'm over it," she said. "At least for a month."

"I've been down here eleven and a half years and I've never seen it like this," Argenziano said.

Now he's filling orders, along with sandbags, as he hopes to avoid more monsoon mayhem.

"We're just trying to stay in business," he said.

His insurance likely covers roof damage. But he says that he never needed flood insurance, which would cover damage in the back. Check our story Flood Dangers to understand why coverage is important even if it can be expensive.
